Most removals we’re called about aren’t whole-yard clearings. They’re one tree in a tight spot: a dead ash leaning over the garage, a silver maple whose roots are lifting the driveway, a split pear tree hanging over the neighbor’s fence. The hard part isn’t cutting the tree. It’s getting every piece to the ground without it touching anything you care about.
That’s why every removal starts with a walk-through and a written plan. We look at what’s under the tree, where we can drop wood, how we’ll get equipment in, and what the ground can take. If a tree has to be taken down limb by limb and lowered on ropes, we’ll tell you that up front and price it that way.
And because we believe what comes down should help something new grow, every tree we remove comes with our tree promise: a new tree for you to plant.
- The tree is dead or mostly dead. Ash trees killed by emerald ash borer get brittle fast and become dangerous to climb.
- There’s a large crack, split trunk, or a hollow or rotted section at the base.
- The tree has started leaning, or the soil on one side is heaving or cracking.
- Roots are damaging a foundation, driveway, sewer line or walkway.
- Mushrooms or fungal growth are appearing at the base or on the trunk.
- It’s an invasive or failure-prone species, like Callery (Bradford) pear, that keeps dropping limbs.
- You need the space for an addition, a garage, a pool or a garden.
The whole job, not just the cut.
- An on-site assessment and a clear written scope before any work starts
- Sectional take-down and rigging when the tree can’t be dropped whole
- Protection for lawns, beds, fences and hardscape during the job
- Limb chipping and wood removal, or wood cut to length and left for you if you’d like firewood
- Raking and blowing off the work area so it’s clean when we leave
- Stump grinding, quoted as part of the removal or separately
- A new tree for you to plant under our one-for-one tree promise
From first look to final rake.
- 1
Walk the tree with you
We look at the tree’s condition, what’s underneath it, power lines, access for equipment, and where wood can safely land.
- 2
Agree on the plan
You get the scope and price in writing: how it comes down, what happens to the wood, whether the stump is included, and how we’ll leave the site.
- 3
Take it down safely
The crew sets up a work zone, takes the tree down in the order the plan calls for, and keeps a ground crew clearing as we go.
- 4
Clean up and replant
We chip brush, haul or stack wood, clean the area, and set you up with your new tree.
Straight answers on cost.
Every property is different, so we price after we’ve seen the job. Estimates are free, and you’ll know the full scope and price before anything starts. These are the things that move the number:
- Height and trunk diameter of the tree
- What’s underneath it: a house, garage, fence or power line means more rigging and more time
- Access: whether equipment can reach the tree or everything has to be carried out by hand
- The tree’s condition. Dead and decayed trees often have to be lowered rather than felled
- Whether stump grinding and full wood removal are included
Common questions
Do I need a permit to remove a tree on my own property?
Usually not for a tree on private residential property, but rules differ by city and some neighborhoods or HOAs have their own requirements. Trees in the strip between the sidewalk and the street are often city property, so check with your city before anything there comes down. We’re glad to help you sort out which applies.
Will you take the wood, or can I keep it?
Either one. We can chip and haul everything, or cut the trunk into rounds or firewood lengths and leave them where you want them. We’ll settle this in your estimate so there are no surprises.
Is stump grinding included?
Only if you want it. Some people keep the stump for a season, and some want the spot ready for grass right away. We’ll quote it both ways.
Does insurance cover tree removal?
When a covered event like a storm drops a tree on your house or another insured structure, removal is often covered. A healthy tree being taken down by choice usually isn’t. We work directly with your insurance company on storm claims and can help you understand what to expect.
How does the tree promise work?
For every tree we remove, we give you a new tree to plant. We’ll talk with you about a species that suits the spot, ideally one that won’t outgrow it.
